Screencasts (video recordings of your screen) are great if you ever want to make a video showing people how to do something or of what’s happening on your screen. Here are a few websites with tools to screencast online or through downloaded applications.

HyperCam | This application allows you to record video of your entire screen and save it to a file. This records video of screen activity, lets you edit the area of capture, and has the ability to let you add a visible mouse click ‘flash.’ The cons are that the sound recording doesn’t work and the default installation is poor.



Jing | Jing, from TechSmith, is an easy way to share images and short videos of your computer screen. Capture what you see, record what you do, and share. This application includes step-by-step tutorials and free online tech support. Free download.


Screencast-o-matic | This is an online screen recording tool for one-click recording. Online, no download necessary. Free includes basic tools, $15 includes more capabilities.



Screenr | This website allows instant screencasts: Just click record. Online, so no download necessary again. On this one you may capture your screen and voice, which is different than the above.

Here are some useful applications and online tools for extensive photo and video editing.


STOIKImagic | Powerful and easy-to-use combination of photo album, organizer, media viewer with an image and video editor. Different photo/video downloads available. Photo application includes panoramas and resizing. Video application includes enhancing and converting. Each products is $50 USD.


JetPhoto | This is a digital photography software which organizes your photos into albums with a calendar and map settings. It allows you to geotag photos with GPS and create flash and web galleries. Free download for Mac or Windows.


Movavi | This is a free online video converter to covert DVD, video, and audio. Free download available for Mac or Windows. Available applications for download include a video suite, screen capture studio, video editor, and a powerpoint to video convertor. 


Photosynth | This is a free online tool created by Microsoft. This versatile application allows you to make panoramas with your camera and then edit with the image composite editor or with the photosynth mobile application. You may make synths (the ability to capture different sides or details of an object) on the photosynth desktop application. Aftewards, share or embed in a blog or website.

DigiKam | Digikam is an advanced digital photo management program. It allows you to view, manage, edit, enhance, organize, tag, and share photographs under Linux systems. The main aspect of this program is the organization.



Gimp | Gimp is a GNU Image Manipulation program. It is a freely distributed piece of software for tasks like photo retouching, image composition, and image authoring. It can be used diversely as a simple paint program or as an expert quality photo retouching program. It is also possible to use the program as an online batch processing system, a mass production image renderer, and an image format converter. It is designed to be augmented with plug-ins and extensions and is easily scripted.



Irfanview | Irfanview is a a freeware for non-commercial use. It is designed to be simple for beginners but also holds the capability of being powerful for professionals. Downloadable. | This is a free image and photo editing software for PC’s that runs on Windows. It supports layers, unlimited undo, special effects, and a wide variety of useful and powerful tools. There is also the option to use the online community which provides friendly help, tutorials, and plugins. Downloadable.

Timerime | Search, compare and make free time lines. You may fill with audio and video fragments such as MP3 and YouTube.
